Born in the Wrong Era

I love vintage--I love the feel of days past and classier fashion (not that I don't enjoy the fashion of today--I would DIE without my jeans!--it's just that I love how sweet and classy clothes used to be!)--the classy looks of the 40's and 50's will forever be my favorites. And of course I just LOVE black and white together--so taking a trip back through time, here is my absolute favorite thing I have ever created--these aren't the best pictures ever (it was just me, a cloudy day, and a tripod), but it will have to do until I can get some better ones:

A black and white vintage dress, complete with pearls, fabric flower ring, piping, double godets, embroidery, and bead-work--yes, I'm quite proud of it. :)
Can't forget my Great-Grandma's beautiful pillbox hat--genuine vintage!
Of course, I couldn't just leave it at the dress--gotta have a matching coat and scarf, just in case it gets cold! Cream wool, black and white checked piping, a whole lot of top-stitching, triangle button-holes, the works.

Oh yes, and the polka-dot lining--just because it's inside, doesn't mean it can't be beautiful!

Big Bright Beautiful Beaded Butterfly Bib Necklace-almost a full out alliteration :)

I am so sick of this rain--I swear, it's never going to end--admittedly I don't enjoy 100 degree Summer weather, but a little sun wouldn't hurt... rain rain go away... well, until then, I guess I will have to settle for pretending that it's Summer--so, my latest I-wish-it-was-Summer-now creation, a Big, Bright, Beautiful Beaded Butterfly Bib necklace! :)
Complete with a cute little butterfly fluttering above the flowers. :)

My necklace was featured!!

A Little Encouragement

They weren't kidding when they said that your biggest critic is yourself--I can personally attest to that for sure--so it certainly is nice to receive a little external encouragement on those days when I wonder if my creations are really any good. So... thank you SOOO much to Craftaholics Anonymous for featuring my Zipper Necklace (WHAT?! That party was open for weeks--which meant that there were countless amazing projects involved, and yet mine made the cut? That's pretty awesome, not gonna lie), The Answer is Chocolate for featuring my Black and White Rings, and to all those who visited the Me Making Do linky party this week, making the link to my Flower Rings the top viewed! I'm still trying to believe that one, haha--why would mine be the top viewed link when there were so many others that were simply amazing? It boggles the mind... but I'm not complaining of course. :) Thank you to these three amazing blogs--you helped me start a potentially not-so-good week off on a wonderfully bright and fantastic note! :)

Anthropologie Inspired Necklaces: Momentary Flutter

Okay, so these ones took me much longer than expected--but after some trial and error, I think I have succeeded in making my own version (thanks to Flamingo Toes ) of Anthropologie's Momentary Flutter necklace!

Anthropologie Inspired Necklaces: Akela

I'm a sucker for Anthropologie designs, but sadly there are several problems with this: first of all, their products are light-years out of my budget, and second, although I may like a design, there is usually something about it that I would like to do differently--basically, I like the concepts behind their designs, but things like color or coverage don't always work with my personal style. After following Anthro-Necklace week over at Flamingo Toes (LOVED it!), I was finally inspired to take these designs and try them myself--so far, I have conquered my two favorite designs, the Momentary Flutter Necklace and the Akela necklace.

Here are my first two versions of the Akela Necklace, a black and white necklace (black and white is my absolute favorite color combo, if you haven't noticed):

Sailer Chick

"Say, it's only a paper moon,
Sailing over a cardboard sea." ~E. Y. Harburg

For me, there is just something about a little sailer dress that says summer is here! I love it--so of course, we had to make one for my little niece--and what better color for a little girl than PINK??
Complete with a matching headpiece of course, can't forget that--no outfit is complete without some accessories. :)
Happy three months Heather! :)

Percy the Purple Hippo--Featured Again! :)

What a day... I can't say it was bad, but to call it good wouldn't quite do the day justice as well--let's just say it was interesting... and at the end of the day, exhausted and wanting to start anew tomorrow, I was so pleased to find that Percy received another feature--this time by the Funky Polka Dot Giraffe! Some days take more out of you than others, and after a day like that, it sure was nice to come home to something like that. :)

Two More Features!

Seriously, today has been such a busy day--and I didn't even get a chance to sit down and craft! Sad... but tomorrow is another day--but even with my lack of creating today, I did receive several silver linings--and two features! My Pink Easter Necklace was featured by Sew Woodsy as well as Eisy Morgan--THANK YOU to you both! :)

Percy the Purple Hippo--Featured! :)

What a surprise! After a long day of work, I came home to relax and discovered that Percy the Purple Hippo was featured--by a blog that I didn't even follow! (although I sure do now!). What a treat! Thank you so much to Eat... Craft... Sew... !!! :)

A Black and White Affair

I just love color--that's really what gets me with any project, or at the fabric store, or even at the grocery store--I always want to buy those gorgeous eggplants, even though I would have no idea what to do with them! But in the end, I must admit, my favorite color combination has no color at all--BLACK AND WHITE. I just think that anything black and white is so beautiful--just elegant and classy--I love it! So, this week I made a few black and white damask rings:

Stay tuned, more rings for Etsy to come tomorrow! :)

This project was featured by the following wonderful blogs!
